Baseball Falls To Radford, 8-5

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond baseball team tied the game, 5-5, in the sixth inning, but was unable to pull off the win as they fell to Radford University, 8-5, at Pitt Field this afternoon.

Shaun House led the Highlanders' attack with one hit, one run and 2 RBI. Second baseman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) and senior A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) tallied two hits and one RBI a piece for the Spiders.

In the first, Radford recorded three runs on one hit and the Spiders responded with one run in the bottom of the inning.

Richmond tied the game at three in the third inning, when junior John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) stroked a double down the left field line, allowing Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) and Matt McKenna (Richmond, Va.) to score. Wotring and McKenna had both walked to lead off the inning.

The Highlanders posted one run a piece in the fourth and sixth innings, before Richmond tied the game at five, on three hits. Right fielder Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) singled up the middle and senior Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J.) doubled to left field, before senior Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) grounded out, allowing Farkes to score. Zeskind knocked in Dolan, when he doubled to center field.

Radford clinched the lead and eventually the win when it tallied three unanswered runs, one in the seventh and two in the ninth

Robby Bursey pitched two innings, allowed no runs or hits and posted his first win of the season. Freshman Matt Francavillo (Endwell, N.Y.) allowed one run and took the loss for the Spiders.

 

 

Richmond is back in action when it travels to face Massachusetts this weekend, for a conference doubleheader on Saturday (noon) and a single game on Sunday (noon).
